FILM AND TELEVISION
This is something that I've said before and I'll say it again: I've spent five years on this. You should spend an hour on it. You know, spend two hours on it. That would be the decent, respectful thing to do, as opposed to writing a snarky five-minute thing that's making fun of me, or saying what other people have said.
- Charlie Kaufman
It's about execution, it's not about content.
- David Simon
You can't take a picture of this. It's already gone.
- Nate Fisher in Six Feet Under
. . . and how do you feel . . being denied these hungry, hungry hippos?
- Dr. Lilian Thurman in Donnie Darko
TECHNOLOGY
I believe in technology, but I think we need to make it more human. I believe that the Internet is becoming a planetary meta-organism, but that it is up to us to guide its evolution, and to shape it into a space we actually want to inhabit - one that can understand and honor both the individual human and the human collective, just like real life does.
- Jonathan Harris
I just got on the website for the 5th time today and my head almost exploded. Can you marry a website?
- John Wade
LIFE/RELIGION
The teacher went over to her and said, "What are you drawing?"
and the girl said, "I'm drawing a picture of god".
and the teacher said, "But nobody knows what god looks like."
and the girl said, "They will in a minute."
- Ken Robinton, during a TED talk
Our belief is not a belief. Our principles are not a faith. We do not rely solely upon science and reason, because these are necessary rather than sufficient factors, but we distrust anything that contradicts science or outrages reason. We may differ on many things, but what we respect is free inquiry, open-mindedness, and the pursuit of ideas for their own sake.
- Christopher Hitchens
I believe that if, at the end of it all, according to our abilities, we have done something to make others a little happier, and something to make ourselves a little happier, that is about the best we can do. To make others less happy is a crime. To make ourselves unhappy is where all crime starts. We must try to contribute joy to the world. That is true no matter what our problems, our health, our circumstances. We must try. I didn't always know this, and am happy I lived long enough to find it out.
- Roger Ebert
I know it is coming, and I do not fear it, because I believe there is nothing on the other side of death to fear, he writes in a journal entry titled "Go Gently into That Good Night." I hope to be spared as much pain as possible on the approach path. I was perfectly content before I was born, and I think of death as the same state. What I am grateful for is the gift of intelligence, and for life, love, wonder, and laughter. You can't say it wasn't interesting. My lifetime's memories are what I have brought home from the trip. I will require them for eternity no more than that little souvenir of the Eiffel Tower I brought home from Paris.
- Roger Ebert
Finding is losing something else. I think about, perhaps even mourn, what I lost to find this.
- Richard Brautigan
When I was a kid I used to pray every night for a new bicycle. Then I realised god doesn’t work that way, so I stole one and prayed for forgiveness.
- Emo Philips
It is man's social nature which distinguishes him from the brute creation. If it is his privilege to be independent, it is equally his duty to be interdependent. Only an arrogant man will claim to be independent of everybody else and be self-contained.
- Mohandas Gandhi
All cities are mad, but the madness is gallant. All cities are beautiful, but the beauty is grim.
- Christopher Morley
To achieve great things two things are needed: a plan, and not quite enough time.
- Leonard Bernstein
Be regular and ordinary in your life so you may be violent and original in your work.
- Gustave Flaubert
Pedaling alone into the dumb sunset.
- Chris Milk Hulburt
There are no pockets in a shroud.

If I could have only one super power it would be to breathe in space.
- Seb
FAMILY
If no one loves you, I'll send you this poodle and it will kiss you constantly.
- Nanny
She probably came back for my waffles.

Rock, paper, scissors. Loser gets in the ocean.

Me: I want a really awesome deal on this.
Brian: Wear an expensive suit and don't smile.
